When the knotting process is completed, the rugs are washed, then reinspected. Rugs
frequently receive a second chemical “lusterizing” wash to protect their
rich sheen and subtle color tones. After washing, the rugs undergo a trimming process
that assures that the surface is uniform and that the pattern is clearly defined
according to the design. In some cases, rugs are also “carved” by specialists
to give the patterns a dimensional effect.
